Another thread got me thinking about the 2011 draft
Smitty and TD have shown that they have a lot of faith in our WR's, which leads me to believe that we won't draft a WR in the early rounds. (maybe in the 4th or 5th)
TD has also failed to resign our OL, which may indicate that were going to be headed in a different direction. It was brought up in another thread that TD likes to resign "core players" before they hit the FA market which he's failed to do with our OL. I'd be surprised if we don't draft an OL in the first round, and another in the late rounds. This is TG's last year under contract, but I believe he'll stick around another year. What's going on with the Falcons is too special for him to leave. I'd like to see us draft our future TG in the second round, that way he can learn from the best before TG retires. What are your 2011 draft predictions. Not who we draft, but what direction are we going to go in as far as position? |

I don't see us going defense at all except OLB maybe. Everyone says DE but I don't see it.
I think OL. We are going to lose some bodies that will have to be replaced. I don't see us going WR, we have too much money tied up in White and Jenkins. We just don't have alot of glaring needs which is awesome. |

We have no change of pace back, not to mention it's going to be difficult to keep Snelling around. We need speed and receiving ability at the RB position in the worst way. I would draft 1- LT(slam baker isn't that good) 2- RB 3- WR 4- WR |

Exactly, and I think Snelling is Turner's eventual replacement, so we're not letting him go anywhere. I say: 1) OL (preferably LT, but if not, whichever the best OL available is); 2) DL (preferably end); 3) WR or RB (or OL depth) |

RE: Another thread got me thinking about the 2011 draft
I would love to say that we go LT with the first pick (that still may happen as we will hopefully be picking with the 32nd pick in the first round) but, Anthony Castonzo is the best OT in this draft. He is not a sure fire franchise LT that you would want to wage a early to mid 1st round pick on. He is likely another Sam Baker (A good OT but not a franchise LT) with longer arms.
OG is a position that is stronger in the upcoming draft but we took two OGs in this years draft. So that probably will not happen. |

I think Hawley is expected to play center, but maybe that has changed. Blalock should get another year of service after he is tendered. |

RE: Another thread got me thinking about the 2011 draft
We need WR's bad. If Roddy goes down there is no one even close to being in his league to help out. I think the Jenkins resigning was a bad move from day one, the only reason I could see TD doing it is to keep some consistent people around Matt Ryan early on in his career. They need another WR that can stretch the field, create seperation, and get yards after the catch.
They also need a speed running back that can come in for a change of pace and obvious passing situations. I think Snelling might can be a long term solution for Turner, but neither are a speed back. They will likely get an offensive lineman even though they currently have drafted McClure's, Dahl's, and Clabo's replacements in previous drafts. I think they will resign either Dahl or Clabo however, and will have to replace the depth guy through the draft rather than the starter. They will likely drafted an outside linebacker to replace Peterson, or be quality depth if Nicholas moves over to the starting role next year. Secondary and defensive line will be set for another year. 2012 draft could see a defensive end go early, but not this coming 2011 draft. Also I could see them going after a second WR later in the draft that can push for a roster spot and push Weems as the return man. A speedster guy here who maybe does not have a lot of size. 1 WR 1 RB 1 OG or OT 1 Center 1 OLB 1 WR/Return man |
