RE: An Ode to the new Sissified Hypocritical NFL
When I played little league, my coaches always told me to tear the helmet off a player or take out his knees.

But privately, I think the league office also sees this as another way to emphasize the offense - more big plays, more scoring, more non-violent highlights, better pub. Handcuffing the defense is inconsequential.
There's a third agenda as well. The long-term effects of concussion and head injuries is a huge skeleton that's still mostly in the NFL's closet. It's coming out now though, and it won't be stopped. The league hasn't been particularly proactive on the issue in the past, but now I think they see no other option.

That's what I'm getting at. The NFL is doing this to protect its product. There is a reason it is the #1 watched spot in America.

And Jedi if you aren't lying again then your coach or coaches were scum bags.

Awesome post. I wonder if they'll be taking away their gold jackets now.

I agree the NFL is trying to protect the shield.

And Jedi I remember that when I played as a kid, coaches would say all that crap. Sleepy

I totally understand and want them to make the game safer, but it has been determined by more than one person - including Mike Pereira, the former VP of Officiating that Dunta could not have stopped and that his hit was not intentional. Then why make HIM an example?

There have been some vicious hits this year - why pick this one? How about Vince Young being pile driven into the ground by 3 guys? How about the hit Toler made on Harry in the Arizona game - where he clearly launched head first and flew into Harry?

It's the same crap. Just like making Milloy an example in the '08 Eagles game.

They'll be playing patty-cake out on the field before long.

This is what happens when the people in control have no experience playing the game.

Thats exactly what Matt Millen was saying after Monday's game.

Because basically after the stance the took they had to make Robinson an example, along with everyone else they fined. I think the Robinson fine is basically the NFL's way of saying, last warning to the league, even if your hit is borderline you still have the chance of being suspended. Take note!

They are sending a powerful message to the players.

And that powerful message is... Don't play defense.

You think Robinson went at Jackson with malicious intent or had time to think about making that tackle differently? I certainly wasn't like a few of the other hits we've seen where the guy makes an obviously deliberate shot to the guy's head or something of the sort.

The league might as well be flag football at this point. Hell, why not just cut out the entire defense so we can watch the golden boy QBs lob bombs to the "coolest" WR of the month.

It's an offensive driven league, why complain about something that has been that way for a while? Robinson has very little to do with this. We don't even know if he would get suspended if that play would have happened 2 weeks from now. Like I said he got fined to send a final message to the players no need to assume he would have been suspended.

The NFL is doing this to protect their business. Remember this is a business! If you really believe that flag football statement then you are overreacting. The league is still going to be brutal, still going to be aggressive, and still going to be violent.
