Here's the deal.

If we keep winning MM keeps his job.

The only thing we can hope for is that we win the Superbowl and another team thinks that it was because of our offensive play calling. MM would be offered a head coaching job and take it.

The Run run pass statement is what I think is wrong. We are a pretty balanced team 180 rush 177 pass. To think that we could lead the league in third down conversions and be toward the bottom in give/take aways without MM's conservative play calling is crazy. Everyone wants to blame MM but Matt is going to throw to the guy who beats his man underneath, intemediate, or deep if they are open and if our run game pounds the other team all game and gives Matt a chance to close it in the 4th I am cool with that. I am a fan and I think we can go deep but this is not 08. They know Matt can play and Roddy is elite and they know Gonzo and they are not going to let them free release deep. Running streaks all game lead to turnovers and 3&outs. Win or lose you cannot just abandon the gameplan you set up all week.

This is the deal...so if you cannot stomach Mularkey the best strategy is to hope for his and our continued success...

Finally:

The OC ain't the one blocking or running routes.

So is it the recievers not good enough to get separation? or is it the OCs routes preventing the WRs from getting separation?

Are the O lineman having trouble pass blocking because the OC calls and or designs plays poorly?

I think we should employ a different strategy for wearing out the opposing D line besides having Matty Ice hitting them in the fist with his mouth 10-20 times a game.

Now if getting a new OC will fix this I might could tone down the sarcasm a little bit.

Saying we're run, run, pass is a downright falsehood. Not even close.

Did you not watch the game? Our WRs were covered more times than not, and by the time someone would finally get open for a second Ryan would be getting ran out of the pocket or would already be running for his life.

RE: Am i the only one still pissed that Mularkey is our OC?
The bottom line is even if we were to go to a West Coast Offense, we would still need to get linemen in capable of playing that system, Matt has been good at getting the ball out teams know they have to blitz him because if they do not pressure him he will rip them to shreds. This being said I think the biggest concern is our OLine first, MM's play calling is second up, because it is dubious, but for the most part right now it is keeping out Franchise QB on his feet.

We definitely need another speed receiver, but I do not think we need them high in the draft. Personally I like having a reliable and strong number 2 receiver who defenses have to worry about because they are physical and savvy. To me and I hope that this comes true for him this person is Kerry Meier. I've gone back and found as much tape as possible on the guy and I am really hoping he bounces back well from injury. Having a physical receiver like him with sure hands who has the tools to beat man and zone coverage adds a different threat to our Offense in my opinion.

e.g.

Roddy - Our Elite Receiver, no more needs to be said on this guy
Kerry - A Savvy route runner who reads the field like a QB. If Matt has a guy like this on the same page on him that is a big plus.
Harry - Was an emerging slot star before his injury and I believe he can be once again

If this was our 3 receiver set we present a defense with 3 different style problems

-An outside receiver who has the ability to work you inside or outside or take a go over the top. He has speed and a high level agility as well as clutch. You're probably gonna throw this guy double coverage or a safety rotating over him multiple times in a game.

-Another outside receiver, he is your possession guy. With his skill set he plays for the size he is but has (had?) the moves of a far shiftier receiver. He's a game reader who can set DB's up to fall multiple ways. Not unstoppable but is the type of receiver who is highly reliable and is more likely to make plays on balls other receivers may give up on. Another thing to like is he gets open, a common knock on some of our current receivers is they don't seem to separate, but for a guy with non elite speed, his quickness and FBI allows him to find room.

Downside, Not seen as having elite speed before his injury, although he was far from slow. Injury set his progress back a year. He is not a sexy choice that coming out of the gate is going to have teams scared and game planning for him, however he as a player is used to having to earn what he gets having been dropped as a starting QB, but transitioned to become one of the most consistent and productive receivers in his college history.

- Our slot receiver allows the ability to mismatch on LB's safeties and the majority of interior DB's has the sort of speed that Matt can appreciate in the middle of the field. Has good moves and is a guy that can break a game open on just one play.

Downside, to some extent we've not seen this guy just yet, although now that he can return to the slot maybe he will. Also his hands are a bit so so, which I think is more a case of still trying to get settled, a habit of catching the ball with his body and perhaps some "I don't want to be injured" jitters

All who care to read this will notice that Jenks is not included in this list. I do not hate Jenkins at all, in fact I would rather him be here than not (Only if he played to the level of where he was drafted) I think that Kerry Meier could be just as good a blocker as Jenkins, and a far better receiver. I am not saying we just hand Kerry the job, but by 2011 mid point/2012 so long as there isn't a lockout. I can't see how Jenkins can keep him off the field. Personally if Kerry had stayed healthy and was playing in Jenkins absence, I think we would have seen his name added to the official depth chart as a starter by now, and perhaps even seen the team trade Jenkins to a receiver needy team. In the offense we're running currently we need reliable route runners not a fly guy who comes through for us every now and again.

RE: Am i the only one still pissed that Mularkey is our OC?
The problem we have IMO is that we focus too too much on TOP during the course of the game. We have all seen that when Matt is in the no-huddle or 2 minute drill, he is top 5, almost unstoppable. Why don't we play like this more? Cuz Smitty wants the ball for 57:45 of the game. I'm not a Mularkey fan per se, but I do realize that he answers to Smitty. For all we know, MM might wanna throw it 90 times a game. But Smitty is gonna put his foot down. I'm not excusin the bogus playcalling done at times, because you can make proper calls within the gameplan. But we hafta realize that to our coaching staff, TOP is 2nd only to points in importance. We could hire Mike Leach or June Jones or the guy at Houston University to be our OC and not much would change.

No, you arent the only one. Ball control football is not everyone's cup of tea.

I appreciate what our offense does. I especially enjoy our offense, more than I used to in the past two years, due to our defense allowing the systematic approach we use to work on a consistent basis. Quite a bit has been said about our OL, WRs, and HC. I do not understand how playing the blame game is even slightly productive, but we all still do it at times. This signifies that its very obvious, in my opinion, that football strategy is more complicated than we like to admit.

Even if you dont like the taste of what we are doing as a team, I think everyone can agree that wins taste much better than losses.
