Sorry, I cant get with you on continuing to doubt Jenks.

I have defended this guy for quite a few years now, even before we locked him up in a new contract to stay our number two WR. I am beginning to think this is a case of looking at the salary too much or relying on stats alone to tell the tale. Jenks brings a hell of a lot to this team outside of his catches.

No, he doesnt put up 100 yard games. No, he doesnt score multiple TD catches every game. We have one of the best number one WRs in the league and a hall of fame TE, Jenks doesnt have to have flashy stats. His impact is undeniable, at this point, and he does everything the coaches ask of him.

I don't understand why people keep making this argument.

In back to back weeks the Falcons had over 200 yards passing and rushing against the Cardinals and the Saints.

It was only the 6th and 7th time it had ever been done by the Falcons and the first time they had ever done it twice in the same season, much less twice in a row.

The Falcons offense was fine. Why are people acting like Jenkins made this huge difference in the offense when he came back?

I don't get it.

I bumped it after I saw the Jenkins blocking bit on ESPN.

By the way, I'm not hating on Jenkins.

At the end of the season, the Falcons are going to have to look at positions they want to upgrade. It happens ever year.

Outside of resigning these OL members, and with the exception of the possibility of Gonzalez retiring, everybody on this offense is secure in their position.

If you were to go position by position with the offensive starters.

Ryan's job secure? Of course.
Turner.........ditto
Ovie.............ditto
Baker...........he's seriously rallied, he's not going anywhere.
Dahl.............if they resign him he obviously keeps his job.
Clabo...........ditto
McClure........if he retires Hawley or Johnson will step right in.
Blalock..........he is secure
Gonzo...........of course
White............yeah I think his job is probably secure
Jenkins?.........if there is going to be an upgrade on the offense, this is it.

Does Meirer (sp?) come in and actually make an impact next year, or will he have the "year-after heebie-jeeibies" like HD83 this year?

No, I don't think he will make an impact next year. It's hard enough for a guy who has been in the league and playing well to make an impact after that injury.

Yeah, I'm afraid of that as well. Thankfully this organization is patient and loyal to players (albeit too much sometimes) and will give him plenty of time to come back and contribute.

True for the starters but I think if we are going to upgrade this offense at all I think it will be with a Speedy RB that can hopefully motion out and play slot WR

Then Save our money for the 2012 offseason for Megatrons homecoming

OK it was real slow today and I decided to bite..

I do not like to get too wrapped up in stats for Football. It is not like baseball after all where stats are everything to almost everybody.

You have to watch the games to make the stats have any meaningful context in any sport but IMO especially football. I think we probably both agree on that.

However here are some numbers that confirm for me what I thought I saw when watching the games. These are just a few and you can surely go back and find numbers to support your supposition that the offense has not improved since Jenks came back. These numbers here seem to support my supposition(and others) that the offense got better when we got Jenks back.

Avg points scored in games 1-5: 22.6
Avg points scored after week 5: 27.75

5 points a game is not trivial when you consider the margins of victory

3rd down efficiency weeks 1-5: 37-80--46.25 %
3rd down efficiency after week5: 59-118-50%

A somewhat modest/marginal improvement

Ryan's completion % before Jenks: 109- 219--49.77%
Ryan's completion % after Jenks: 191- 298--64.09%

A serious improvement that has a heck of a lot to do with how good our offense is/does

Red-Zone Efficiency before Jenks: 8-19-- 42.10%
Red-Zone Efficiency after Jenks: 21-28- 75%

Another very serious indicator IMO

So that might have some bearing on why people feel like the O got better.

I will once again attempt to stop beating the dead horse's skeleton.Big Grin Peace!

RE: All Michael Jenkins do is make the BIG CATCH
Theres some confirmation for why we say that Peyton. Redwolf put it in terms you prefer and I will also add that just by watching the offenses performance before/after Jenks came back, it was very easy to tell that he makes a big impact.

I know you arent "hating" but I also know you have always been very critical of him due to him never having a 100 yard game (breakout game). The thing I personally dont understand, is what you EXPECT from a #2 WR in our system? I dont think we will ever have a number two, or number 3, WR that puts up spectacular receiving numbers based on the talent we have on offense that needs balls thrown their way (White, Gonzo) and the system we run.

RE: All Michael Jenkins do is make the BIG CATCH
jenkins is solid, but chances are he's not going to win us any games or give us a big performance if teams shut down (or slow down) roddy.

gonzo is declining and if you stop roddy, there's a pretty good chance our pass game will struggle. i don't think peyton is looking for a #2 that will put up 80 catch 1,000 yd seasons, but a number to who has the potential to have a big game if our 1st and/or 2nd options in the pass game are stopped.

the chances of jenkins having a big day when our #1 is stopped are very slim, which is why peyton keeps bringing up the 100 yd thing...i think....
