ATL Sports: World Cup?

Okay, so according to the state of the franchise, we are getting a new stadium.
Along with this new stadium comes an MLS franchise (I'm not a huge soccer fan, but good for Atlanta picking up another franchise so soon after losing one). And also the Freaking World Cup.

Now I understand go big or go home, but the World Cup? I don't know about you guys, but when I think of Atlanta, the first thing that comes to mind is not soccer.

Were did this come from? I hope we get it, the Olympics were fun, but the whole thing just seems kind of random to me. Your thoughts?

Random? Every where in the US dreams of having the world cup. Do you know how much revenue that brings in? Think football is huge here? Go to a soccer game in the other side of the world, I'm sure you know that lol.

They see it as an opportunity to help the community and themselves. That would be so kick ass.

Duh, look at it the other way, from the World Cups perspective.

Yeah, Atlanta and the World Cup in the same sentence is random as hell.

And no, no one in America dreams about anything Soccer related. It's like the metric system, sure everybody else likes it, but we don't really give a fuck.

You're wrong about the World Cup man. The World Cup is one if the most lucrative events. Every city has the high hopes of receiving the bid for the World Cup and to think the fight is against is not just the U.S. its the whole world

I don't see why Atlanta wouldn't be an ideal place in the U.S. for the World Cup. It's a major international landing spot and a major national and cultural hub that sees people from all over the world come in.

I don't even like soccer, but if Atlanta held the World Cup i'd have to go to one game just to say i went. The U.S. game would be sold out so i'd probably have to go the turkey vs. spain match or something like that. ha ha.

I am not knowledgeable about soccer, but I know that it is the biggest money sport on the planet......not even close.

If (when) we get the new stadium, are we a likely spot for the World Cup final or are we just a candidate for a semi/qualifying game? The money difference is huge.

Atlantans need to be more forward-thinking. We had some bright people decide to make our dinky, crappy airport into a modern international airport. At the time, there was plenty of laugter and criticism. People thought it was a waste of money. Were it not for our extremely successful airport, Atlanta would be on par with the Kansas City's of the world. Today, Atlanta is a major corporate headquarter and is poised for even greater success.

We absolutely need a highly developed public transit system (a real subway). We also need to pour money into our universities, especially Emory and Georgia Tech. The business and jobs that come with vibrant Science and Technology universities is enormous. Atlanta must advance aggressively now.

I know that a stadium will not solve the problems of this city, but attracting global attention will help our business leaders convince businesses, around the world, to bring jobs to the area.

This is a good thing. I applaud Mr Blank for his foresight.
