These guys are freakin amazing. Dude is throwing 99-100 mph, no prob, we'll just hit 4 home runs in 5 at bats off ya. LOL

Gezuz. We've already got like 40 home runs in 13 games. 6 today. Just crazy.

Losing Avalin sux though. He was doing well. Looked like something jumped up and bit him!

After 13 games, we have 25 HRs. On pace for 311.5 (Record is 264).
We also have 110 strikeouts. On pace for 1370.8 (Record is 1529).

However, we've only hit into 9 double plays, which is down from the last several years, where it seemed we had at least 1 and sometimes 2 an inning...

RE: 2013 Atlanta Braves Season Thread
How in the hell have I missed this thread? I routinely post in the OMB's Talk About The Braves forum, but somehow missed this one. Looks like I will have to make my presence known to this thread as well.

10 Things I Think I Know (Peter King remix):

1. Can't Count This Year's Braves Out: Trailing tonight in the 8th inning 3-2? No problem, we win 6-3. What about losing 4-2 in the 9th against the Nats? Ramiro Pena plays hero to win it 6-4. And what about trailing 5-4 in the 9th against the Cubs? Brothers Upton wins it for us 6-5.

2. Chicks Dig The Long Ball: We have hit a HR in each of our 12 wins this year. That makes our Braves pretty attractive.

3. Chicks Dig The Long Ball II: We have hit an MLB-leading 25 home runs so far this year. Atlanta has been giving away lots of souvenirs to those sitting in the outfield seats. Might those become the most premium seats now for our Atlanta Mashers?

4. Pitching Wins Championships: If this is true, early returns suggest we are well on our way. We came into the game leading all of MLB with a sub 2.00 ERA...and that includes both of Teheran's starts. Oh, and let's not forget Paul Maholm. He has not only been one of the best lefty starting pitchers in baseball since All Star Break of 2012, but he's been one of the best starting pitchers period. His new and improved curveball/eephus pitch has allowed him to yet give up a run all season.

5. Justin Upton: Does anything really need to be said here? Looks like Kevin Towers (Diamondbacks GM) is looking more and more like an idiot. Oh, and he's just 25. Scary.

6. Gattitude May Be Real: Who, outside of Atlanta, knew about this guy coming into the season? But don't look now, this guy is proving quite the catch at catcher. Yeah, his power is prolific, but his handling of the pitching staff and his defense have not only been better than advertised--it's been more than capable.

7. They Aren't The Falcons: We know about the Falcons...they would race out to big leads and then usually win the game after making it too close for comfort. Not these Braves. If they get a lead on you and their MLB-best bullpen gets into the game, it's over. Until tonight, the bullpen hasn't allowed an inherited runner to score all year. Let that sink in for a moment.

8. Injuries Haven't Slowed Them Down: It's easy to forget that these Braves, despite the gaudy 12-1 record, are missing several key members. Perennial All Star Brian McCann hasn't played all season, All Star Jonny Venters hasn't either, All Star caliber Freedie Freeman raced out to a hot start but played only five games before going on the DL for a strained oblique, and Brandon Beachy, who led the league in ERA in 2012 before succumbing to Tommy John surgery, won't be back until around the All Star Break. So a 12-1 team--which will surely regress to a less superhuman record--is only going to grow stronger.

9. Doing More With Less: The Braves are doing all of this with key players such as Jason Heyward, BJ Upton, Dan Uggla, and Andrelton Simmons struggling with either bad luck or consistency at the plate. That's half of the lineup. However, less-heralded players such as Ramiro Pena, Chris Johnson and Juan Francisco have buoyed the offense while Paul Maholm, Luis Avilan (get well soon!), Jordan Walden, and even Cory Gearrin have provided stellar early returns on investments.

10. They Aren't Cheap: Their wins that is. The Braves entered the game with the best run differential in the game. Thanks to their power-heavy offense, they score a lot of [timely] runs. And due to a stingy pitching staff, they don't give up many either. One of the best determinants of a team's success can be derived from its run differential. If the Braves can continue being stingy and providing timely power, this Braves team will be a major force throughout the entire year.

Excellent post! just hoping the Bravos can avoid another late season collapse, love the great start though. Best start to a Braves season in recent memory.
