RE: A chilly start to Ryan's step-up season
Matty Ice will produce this weekend. Let's face it people Pittsburgh's defense is terrible. Now we will see what Ryan has to offer, while at home, with a lesser opponent.
A win will solve all ills. |

We light the Cardinals up on Sunday, and people around here will magically feel a whole lot better about Matt Ryan.A football team and its players are only as good or as bad as their last game from the typical fans' perspective. Must be something phychological about this peculiar phenomenon. theProf |

I assume we knew about his arm strength, or lack of it when we drafted him. How come after two years they haven't built an offense that caters to his strengths? I'm not a fan of firing an OC during the season. However, I really think he should get the ax at the end of the year. Ryan should have been in a west coast offense.Ryan has plenty of arm strength to get the ball downfield. The problem isn't his lack of arm strength; it is lack of time to throw. According to Tandy's statistics from the Steelers game, Ryan had to throw over 75% of his passes in less than 2 seconds. The OL was just not giving Ryan adequate enough protection and time to throw deep. theProf |

That's the part I don't get. That skinny post to Jenkins in Ryan's first game was a thing of beauty -- it allowed Matt to get the ball out early and Jenkins to catch the ball in stride. Why we don't have more of that is more than I can understand. Maybe defenses are scheming that play out, but I don't see how they could on a 3 wide single back set. Leave the TE in to block or send him on a slant or go route. Oh, yeah, we don't use that set very much...... |

Not sure it is fair to say that Ryan hasn't improved because the play calling doesn't allow him to show his full capabilities. If MM would open it up a bit, I think we'd see a QB that has improved greatly. He is just being handcuffed right now. |

I believe that if we throw down the field and Ryan gets Intercepted often it will kill his confidence. Joey Harrinton WAS decent in college, but in Detroit his confidence was destroyed. MM is trying to salvage Ryan's confidence by bringing him along slowly. If we fire MM and bring in a new OC Ryan will regress further and then he will feel pressured even more to perform. That could create a downward spiral. If we can eek out messy wins with-out going down field so-be-it. Lets allow Matt to develope and lets allow MM to bring him along slowly. |

Character aside i believe MM has Ryan's best interest at heart. He may have seen Ryan seem less confident at some point in practice and he decided to scale back. You can not kill a young guys confidence. If you do, its over. |
