I thought Robert Mathis' contract was expiring. He will be 30, but he is still a complete DE that would fit into our 4-3 very well.

Gholston would be a good gamble: low cost, possible up side.

I agree, me neither. I also wouldn't pay him on the franchise tag either. I say we resign him to a 3 year contract that is less than the tag is worth.
