Seems like there’s a lot of mixed feeling about bringing Peppers here, so let’s vote.

Sure hands: Yes or No?

We’re going CB in the 1st round

It’s the only position that actually makes sense to me.

Does anyone dispute that we need help at the following positions?
DE
OLB
CB
WR
TE
O-line
but only one of them makes sense to be a first round pick.
DE - When was the last time a DE was picked in the first round that was worth it in his first year. (Even second year) Mario Williams is the only one that I can think of that actually panned out and he did nothing his first year. I think we go with a FA here.

OLB - Nicholas is going to be in his second year and played well. Paterson is the starter at the other side. We need a player to take his place but I don’t see us getting a 1st rounder to sit on the bench this year and wait till Peterson leaves. I see this being a 3,4 or 5th pick. (Unless they’re really high on Spencer Adkins)

WR - Harry Douglas will be back. Maybe he pushes Jenkins for the number 2 position. But I don’t see them using a 1st rounder, this is a want…not a need.

TE - Again…not a first rounder when they have to sit on the bench for a year watching Gonzo. I’d love to see Peek from Alabama in the 4th he can block catch and has a good attitude

O-line
Just can’t see us doing it. Not when we played well without Turner. The Play action was a hard play to sell when he went down. I think we need a o-linemen but not a first rounder.

That leave CB, one that can go with Owens and the two can grow together. Also with a Coaching change something tells me that they know exactly what area needs the most attention

Seriously guys we HAVE to cut Mughelli!

Guys Mughelli is a possible homosexual. We don’t need a Godless sodomite on this team. I thought we were trying to build a character team? We don’t need Ryan to be nervous before each play because a big gay guy is staring at his *** before every play! Trade him to the 49′ers.

Dynasty being built before our eyes!

1st Round - Atlanta Falcons: Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri
Mike Peterson, 34 in June, started off the season pretty well at weakside linebacker, but predictably wore down the stretch.

The Falcons need help in their linebacking corps. Not only was Sean Weatherspoon the vocal leader of the North team in the Senior Bowl, he also made several outstanding plays during the game, pretty much cementing his first-round status. Weatherspoon is the type of leader Atlanta’s defense needs.

3rd Round - Atlanta Falcons: Willie Young, DE, N.C. State
Atlanta’s secondary was a major issue this year, but part of the problem was the lack of a pass rush. The Falcons compiled just 28 sacks in 2009.

4th Round - Atlanta Falcons: Eric Decker, WR, Minnesota
Wide receiver is not as big of a need as corner, but there’s no denying the value that Eric Decker presents here. He could be a solid No. 2 wideout for the Falcons.

For the most part I like this draft. I disagree with the 4th round pick and don’t think we need a WR (HD83 will be back, Weems played decent and will probably earn the 4th WR spot, plus Booker could possibly be retained as our 5th WR), I think if anything we would go CB or OL over a WR. If we could get Sean Weatherspoon in the 1st that would be pretty sick! Our LB’s could realistically be the best LB crew in the NFL for the next 4-5 years! I don’t think CB is the big need everyone makes it out to be after the emergence of Owens. Owens played great in the second half of the season for us, Grimes stepped up and played well and keep in mind we still have no clue what our draft pick William Middleton will bring to the table next year. I’m assuming Chevis Jackson and Chris Houston will be fighting for one of the final roster spots as a DB too. I’m assuming we will draft an explosive homerun hitter at RB later in the draft (6 or 7th), I really don’t think there is any way we resign Norwood, I love him but he’s way to much of a liability and we will resign Snelling based on his versatility to play both FB/RB at a high level. We will also pick up a TE to be Gonzo’s apprentice. I’m hoping we get 4 compensation picks too for the loss of Brooking, Foxy, Grady, and Boley. This team will be so young and full of potential, we are really putting all the pieces in place to build a dynasty!

Falcons Try Out Three Canadian Football League Kickers

There’s not much for player news this time of year, so word that three Canadian Football League kickers tried out with the Falcons this week (hand-delivered to The Falcoholic by a rogue Mountie) is enough to make me quirk a magnificent eyebrow or two.

Hat tip to The Montreal Gazette, which reported that Montreal Alouettes kicker Damon Duval joined Calgary Stampeders kicker Sandro DeAngelis and Toronto Argonauts kicker Justin Medlock. Admittedly I’ve been known to read too much into things, but I believe the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Or the Falcons don’t have that much confidence in their current two in-house options, Matt Bryant and Steve Hauschka. Either one.

Medlock is accurate and DeAngelis is known for his leg, but if this Canadian “newspapereh?” is to be believed, the team is impressed enough by Duval in particular that they’re considering offering him a contract. This could be an indication that Bryant is not being viewed as a long-term solution and Hauschka’s confidence issues aren’t something the team sees dissipating rapidly enough. At 29, Duval had a cup of coffee with the Falcons during the off-season back in 2003 and has since moved on into the CFL, but he’s reputedly got a strong leg and pretty good accuracy. He’s young enough for a kicker that the team could squeeze a few quality years out of him, if they believe his talent level’s high enough to justify a roster spot.

It couldn’t hurt to bring him aboard if the Falcons are serious about giving him a try, and I welcome anybody who I think might have a shot at improving the team. It doesn’t bode particularly well for either Bryant or Hauschka that the team had these guys flown in on wooden helicopters off the glaciers of Canadia, however, and this is a clear sign that there’s going to be considerable competition for that job in the off-season. After Jason Elam’s struggles in 2009, I don’t think it’s unfair to welcome that level of competition if it means getting the right man for the job.

Your thoughts, gentle (and therefore not Canadian) readers?

Hargrove’s redemption helps Saints to Super Bowl (AP)

For Anthony Hargrove, heading out on the town during Super Bowl week means an afternoon trip to his old drug and alcohol recovery clinic. The Saints' defensive lineman watched last season's Super Bowl at the Transitions Recovery Program in North Miami Beach. A year later, he has returned for all the right reasons.
