PreCombine/ Post Senior Bowl

1st- Sean Weatherspoon: Outside Linebacker Missouri 6′2 245

This is going to be a solid pick at 19 or 20. The talent really fall off after Joe Haden. It really not wasting a first round pick on cornerback that would likely be pick second round. Weatherspoon would be a solid pick here because outside linebacker is actually a position of need. It is not as important as DE or CB, but at this position it is the best choice. Weatherspoon is a linebacker that can cover and lay the wood. He had proven all year. He really show out during the senior bowl.

3rd- Syd’Quan Thompson: CB Cal 5′9 191

Yes, he is another small cornerback. However, he is a more polish Chris Owens at this time last year. He has very good closing along with the ability to tackle. He play a lot bigger than his size.

3rd- Jermaine Cunningham: Defensive End Florida 6′3 255

Cunningham has good quickness and can get to the quarterback better than Anderson. He is also good against the run with a decent motor. He will be a solid contributor in our rotation.

4th- Anthony McCoy: Tight End Southern California 6′5 250

Everyone know that Tony Gonzalez will likely retire after this season. Why not spend a fourth round a player that can potentially become a good TE. He is a bit raw, but let him learn under Tony. Tony can teach him the in and out of the NFL and teach him better techniques. He has a decent hand and can run with the ball in his hand. He is a decent blocker as well.

5th- Riley Cooper: Wide Receiver Florida 6′3 215

Cooper can develop into another version of Brain Finneran. He can win a lot of jump ball with height along with his good hand. He will drop the ball at least once a game, but he can make up with big play. He is a ok blocker. Let him learn from our WR corp and we potentially will have another weapon.

5th- Myron Lewis: Cornerback Vandybilt 6′2 200

Mr. All Around at Vandy. He is a good a physical player, return kick. He will provide us with much needed size at Corner. Solid special team player.

6th- Deji Karim: Runningback Southern Illinios 5′11 205

Deji Karim will be a steal. He is from a small school, but he is very explosive. He has size and speed and strength to gain some yard. He will be a solid replacement for Jerious Norwood.

7th- Tony Washington: Offensive Tackle Abiline Christain 6′7 300

We need to re-sign Harvey Dahl. Clabo can go. Reynold shows some flashes this season when he was in the game. But Tony Washington will provide us with depth and a solid player to develop into a nasty Tackle. He is pretty nasty as it is.

7th- John Fletcher DT Wyoming 6′6 274

Provide with more depth at DT.

Anyone think theres an unusual amount

I don’t remember this much draft talk being given away so early. Do you think our front office isn’t being secretive because its obvious we need corners and Defensive end? Or do you think its a smokescreen for the Tackle we are taking with our first pick? I wouldn’t be mad either way as long as one or the other are addressed in free agency. I think building a top tier offensive line is going to be worth the investment, That was the downfall of our offense this year, and I think we will all see the AMAZING offense we were planning on seeing this season. Where Ryan kills defenses with the deep ball to roddy, Screens to douglas, Gonzo, and then Turner comes in, if our offense played to its potential we would be literally unstoppable, I just dont see that happening without an upgraded Offensive line. However Smith is a very defensive coach and I could see him wanting to beef up the defense this year.

Keys for Atlanta Falcons fans in Saturday’s Senior Bowl

Atlanta Falcons fans should be happy about one thing: their quarterback situation is settled enough that their team won’t be involved in the Tim Tebow debate/derby. One of the players the Falcons met with last Sunday night, as the nation’s top seniors gathered in Mobile, Alabama for the annual Senior Bowl all-star game, may have played himself out …

It’s the off-season, so it’s fun to debate what’s ahead as though we have some idea of what it’s going to be. It being a Saturday, I figured a discussion about Harry Douglas and Michael Jenkins might be a good one to have.

Basically, this is to determine who is going to be holding down the spot opposite Roddy White in 2010, because there’s one receiver who clearly isn’t going anywhere. On the other side, you have a choice between the young, explosive and super-talented Douglas, who lost an entire season to injury, or Michael Jenkins, stalwart, big, and an incredibly capable blocker. Because what they bring to the table is so disparate, you really need to decide what you look for in a #2 receiver. Would you rather have a guy capable of stretching the field or a tall target in the red zone? Can’t have both, in this case.

Discuss away and we’ll feed our brains.

JA98

I’ve given this dude a lot of time to produce. I always believe you should wait till the 3rd year to declare a draftee a bust. Ok now. lets see. Year 1, i’ll chalked that up to petrino and vick. Year 2, lets just chalk that up to a new system and still growing. Year 3….. wtf you suck a##. 2.5 sacks in 3 years? seriously. I swear. JA98 in terms of production, ranks up there with the all time busts. seriously. Is he not up there with the Ryan Leafs?
