Will the Falcons be a running team or a passing team ?

The Falcons will be a …………….”take what the defense gives you” team.
With a QB like Matt Ryan we will not be a stereotypical run team or pass team. Far from it. Ryan is smart. Very smart. We will see him audible constantly this year based on what defensive formations he’s facing. This is where a cerebral QB like Ryan pays huge dividends. No QB in the league will “out-prepare” Ryan. He will study film until the wee hours……………..daily.
Gone are the days when a Falcon team lines up with a “set” list of plays, then run them come h.ell or high water, regardless of what the defenses are doing. No more.
So, let the so called experts, along with the opposition believe the Falcons will be a running team………….or whatever. Mr. Ryan & Co. will take care of business and eat their lunch.
I can’t wait.

Michael Vick, Plaxico Burress Could Be Sitting for Quite a While

Plaxico BurressWhile there is speculation of Michael Vick eventually becoming a Dolphin, Yahoo Sports’ Jason Cole has a pretty firm story that says Vick won’t be playing in the NFL anytime soon. Cole also says that wide receiver Plaxico Burress is facing an indefinite suspension as well, which would put a giant bucket of cold water on any hopes he has of landing a solid free agent deal.

Cole cites three sources with knowledge of the situation. According to them, commissioner Roger Goodell will continue to throw his weight around when it comes to suspensions. He’s already slapped wide receiver Donte Stallworth with an indefinite suspension after Stallworth pled guilty to DUI manslaughter. One of Cole’s sources says its likely that Vick will be suspended for the entire 2009 season as well, which would mean he would be out of football for three seasons, making any return even tougher in 2010.

But in Vick’s case, his problems come from Goodell’s apparent desire to make him pay some more for crimes he’s already been convicted of. In Burress’ case, apparently the decision to punt the case until after the season has angered the NFL commish, which may mean he acts now rather than waiting to see if Burress is convicted. If Burress is found guilty of possessing and firing an unlicensed gun he could be facing three and a half years in prison–he turned down a plea bargain because it would have involved jail time.

“The commissioner would rather have the prosecutors take some action before he does anything, but he’s prepared to do something regardless if he has to,” the league source said.

But for now, Goodell has effectively suspended Burress without even lifting his finger. Until Goodell lets teams know whether Burress will be available to play this season, he makes it very difficult for Burress’ agent Drew Rosenhaus to work out a deal with any team.

Former NFL Coach Dennis Green Thinks Michael Vick Will Likely Be a Dolphin

Bill ParcellsIt’s impossible to find an NFL head coach or general manager who is willing to say that he wants to sign Michael Vick, but former NFL coach Dennis Green, now coaching for the start-up UFL, thinks he knows where Vick will end up.

As he sees it, Bill Parcells wants Vick, and if Parcells wants something, he’s going to get it. So he thinks Vick will end up as a Dolphin.

“I have a hard time believing that Michael Vick is not going to wind up with Bill Parcells, simply because he has that creativeness that says that no matter what it takes, he’s going to find a way to get Michael Vick,” Green told Sirius NFL Radio. “Now, whether it means convincing the commissioner or whatever it takes, Michael Vick is probably going to wind up at Miami because of the fact that Bill Parcells is Bill Parcells.”

That sounds plausible at first glance, but Green’s theory doesn’t make sense for several reasons. Most notably, Miami has a quarterback it’s comfortable with for 2009 — Chad Pennington. Beyond that, Miami drafted quarterback Pat White in the second round largely because of his potential at running the Wildcat. And if White isn’t ready to run the Wildcat, tailback Ronnie Brown showed last year that he’s enough of a passing threat to keep defenses at least somewhat honest.

And there’s even one more problem: no one knows if Vick will even be eligible to play this year. Commissioner Roger Goodell has not lifted his indefinite suspension, and he has indicated that he won’t even consider the suspension until Michael Vick’s house arrest ends on July 20 — that just days before the start of training camp.

Harry Douglas is frugal

The 250-plus players at the symposium are getting a non-stop dose of information from league and union officials, psychologists, NFL security as well as current and former players. The one piece of advice that seems to have really resonated was offered by Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas as part of a wide-ranging panel discussion Sunday night.
Douglas told a packed ballroom audience that some of the biggest transitions from college to the pros is keeping hangers-on at a distance and being mindful of money. As an example, he tugged at the gaudy earrings in each lobe and told players that even though it looked like he was sporting major blingage he actually bought the faux jewelry at “Claire’s in the mall.”

He later confirmed that the earrings are fake diamonds, but because he plays in the NFL people think they’re authentic.

My season predictions and why.

I say we should win 12 with 4 losses coming to NE,Philly,NO and the bills.

But it could be a 9-10 win season either way we should have no trouble winning our first back to back seasons ever and make a second play off run and quiet all the crap about Ryan and go to maybe the NFC championship game.
Not going to say we will win it or play in the SB but I think we will make a nice run.

Miami-Wild cat could be scary to defend like the Vick bootleg, still I think we will win in a close one hard fought could be a shoot out.

Carolina-If Jake plays well could be a good game but I do think they will score due to Smith but I think we also win this one.

New England-Brady and Moss will be trouble for us and Tom has a wall of linemen to protect him, sorry but I think this will be our first L in a close one

San Fran-I think this will be a new 49ers but I dont think they will be in the same league as our offense unless we play like crap being over confident.

Chicago-New QB and they lost like they did to us last year, most talked about in the NFL still gets on replay. They will be ready and so will we.I am on the fence with this scrap but I will say atlanta in the upset loss to chicago

Dallas-I think after losing to the Bears we will blister the cowboys, dont know why other then our D will have grown up or we will be a door mat team and a fresh hard loss from the Bears has the team pissed off.Dallas is a paper team with no heart.

NO-First division game and bush cant run on us and Brees will make a mistake or walk away with 3 more then 6,we win in the redzone battle.

Washington-Jason wont be playing well and we smash them. Our team will score points and run the ball well.

Carolina-I think we will 2-0 them this year.

NY-No buress and Manning will not be the same.Jacobs will be a threat but in the end they cant keep up.

Tampa-They will be better then expected but they will not be looking at a worst to first. We win big time.

Philly-This is hard, but I think we might be able to snuff them out this year, but I will say that the eagles take it by 3 or less, maybe a overtime game here.

NO-if there defense is solid this time of the year, healthy. They should 1-1 with us and tie this season.

Jets-Not ready for us right now better then they started but not ready.

Buffalo-With T.O. in his first year with a new team is very team 1st guy and they should be a problem for us.The best corner cant cover TO every play we loose by 10 or less.

Tampa-Tampa will be better then the first meet but we 2-0 them and get them started on 2010 with a fresh loss.

Thomas DeCoud

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — At one of the final practices during organized team activities, safety Thomas DeCoud broke free on a blitz.

Had this been a game, the second-year player would have an easy — and potentially turnover-causing — quarterback sack. Instead he settled for cheers and applause from his defensive teammates, who welcomed the play as a momentum-changer during a competition against the offense.

On the next play, DeCoud was back patrolling the middle of the field in the style of any NFL free safety.

But that’s just a glimpse of the versatility he wants to show Falcons coaches in the midst of re-tooling the team’s defense.

“You have to look at what you can do as a player,” DeCoud said. “I feel I am that hybrid safety: play in the box, play against the run and play center field, get off the hashes and make plays. I feel like I have those skill sets.”

Unlike some rookies from the team’s 2008 Draft class, DeCoud was not asked to start from the early days of his career.

The third-round pick was inactive for five games and played primarily on special teams last season. He recorded three special teams stops in the team’s playoff loss at Arizona.

Waiting for an opportunity is nothing new for the 197-pound defensive back, however.

Before his senior season at Cal, DeCoud had started just four games. But, in 2007, he started 12 of 13 contests and recorded a team-high 116 tackles (one sack and one interception).

Through the first round of offseason practices in Flowery Branch, DeCoud got work with the first-team defense.

“He’s a much-improved player right now playing with much more confidence,” defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder said. “For rookies coming into the league there’s a process involved. He went through that process a year ago and over time he got better. I’ve seen the same improvement as we’ve been in OTAs.”

But DeCoud isn’t simply inheriting a job in the secondary.

The Falcons drafted Missouri safety William Moore in the second round. The team also returns 2008 starter Erik Coleman, Antoine Harris, Jamaal Fudge and Eric Brock at the position.

“I think we’re young but we’re a very talented secondary,” Coleman said. “Everybody can cover; everybody can come up and hit.”

What started as a position of need has turned into one of the Falcons deepest roster spots.

For DeCoud, that comes with competition and the need for flexibility.

“This is where I wanted to be,” DeCoud said. “This is where I expected to be as a player, working into a starting position. Being a drafted player you want to come in and start and contribute to the team but last year I had to take a backup role. This is my year to step up, be that starting safety and be a leader.”
